Peasant Scenes and Landscapes
The Bruegel family and their heirs, across the village green and through the Flemish seasons.
Peasant Scenes and Landscapes
A seasonal survey of genre painting in the Low Countries from the 1560s through to the end of the 1600s: harvests and weddings, kermisses and ice-skating, every turn of the calendar rendered with an eye that is half comic, half reverent.
The exhibition concludes with an intimate room of landscapes by the Younger Teniers and a remarkable, almost abstract study of a ploughed field recently attributed to Jan Siberechts.
